Apprenticeship opportunity with Glynn Purnell

Glynn Purnell ApprenticeshipSouth and City College Birmingham are offering a unique opportunity to become Birmingham's Michelin starred chef Glyn Purnell's apprentice.

An 11 week Introduction to Cookery course is being run at the college for 16-24 year olds starting in October. Birmingham's Michelin starred chef Glynn Purnell will mentor the class, giving each student the opportunity to visit his portfolio of businesses, including his award winning restaurant Purnells, the newly opened Bistro and his cocktail bar Ginger's to see fine dining in action.

At the end of the 11 week course, Glynn Purnell will select two lucky students to become his apprentices. The apprentices will work full time in Purnell's restaurant and Bistro, learning from the award winning chef and experiencing a once in a lifetime opportunity. They will also attend college on a day release basis, gaining recognised qualifications which will help them further their career in catering

The Course

This course will equip you with hands-on skills and experience in cooking, basic food preparation, food safety, healthy eating, as well as customer service and the hospitality industry. You will be learning in the college's excellent training kitchens in Bordesley Green, where you will be cooking for customers in college restaurant that is open to the public.

On successful completion of the course, students will have achieved an NVQ in Professional Cookery Level 1 qualification.

Glynn Purnell will be looking for passionate, creative and ambitious apprentices, and will chose the two lucky students in December, ready to start the New Year with him.

Students that do not become Glynn Purnell apprentices may be offered other apprenticeship opportunities at venues across Birmingham or can go on to study a higher level course at the college.

To apply to the course and to be in with a chance to become a Michelin starred apprentice, you need to register with the National Apprentice Service.

All applications should be submitted as soon as possible. Initial interviews will be held on the 17 September which you must be available for.
