Fashion & Textiles

Based in the Birmingham City Centre, only a minute's walk from the Bullring and shopping areas and within the heart of Birmingham's creative quarter, our school of fashion the Fusion Centre is home to our exciting range of fashion courses.

From learning how to sketch your initial ideas to seeing your finished pieces on a catwalk, our fashion courses will teach you all the skills and techniques needed to bring your ideas to life and to work in the world of fashion.

The fashion industry

Fashion is an international industry and it is booming. It is worth around £12bn to the UK economy, with around 340,000 people in fashion jobs in the UK mainly employed in the three main sectors; design, manufacturing and servicing.

Fashion courses at South and City College Birmingham

South and City College have a range of fashion and textile courses, from level 1 up to university level fashion courses.
During your time on a fashion and textiles course at South and City College, you will have the opportunity to take part in our sell-out annual fashion show as well as the 'Rags to Riches' competition, sponsored by Harvey Nichols and the Birmingham Rag Markets.

You will work in our bright and airy workshops, learn about the fashion industry, trend forecasting, you'll design your own collection and buy materials from the local markets.
We have highly skilled tutors who have experience of working in the fashion industry and they'll help develop you and make the most of your talent.

We also have part time fashion courses and short fashion courses such as fashion design courses, sewing courses, dressmaking courses and a dedicated centre The Women's Enterprise Hub for women interested in fashion and textiles offering fashion business courses, with an emphasis on Asian couture.

South and City College's fashion courses in Birmingham could help you follow your dream career in fashion buying, fashion and textile design, fashion forecasting, fashion journalism; fashion merchandising, as a model; fashion promotion/PR, fashion retail, as a fashion stylist and more.
We have had students go on to study fashion degrees, and fashion courses at university including the prestigious London College of Fashion, become costume designers for theatres and set up their own fashion businesses.
