The higher education graduation ceremony took place on 21 September at the college’s Digbeth Campus with special guest the Lord Mayor of Birmingham and Alumni speakers, Erin Howell and Dennis Seaton.
The auditorium was filled with tutors, friends, families and graduates who created the most wonderful atmosphere with pride and smiles all round.
Deputy Principal, Sardul Dhesi carrying in the Mace opened the ceremony, with Principal Mike Hopkins taking to the podium to welcome guests and congratulate students: “you have shown what you are capable of and what you can achieve and you should be very proud.”
The Lord Mayor continued the speeches and said "life has taught me that there is no limit to what you can achieve if you put your mind to it, if you are determined and work hard to achieve your goals."
As the names of the graduands were called out, they formed a procession stepping up into the spotlight to shake the hands of the Lord Mayor Councillor Carl Rice, Mike Hopkins and Chair of Corporation, Clive Henderson.
Inspirational speeches were made from Alumni students, Erin Howell and Musical Youth’s Dennis Seaton who left a powerful message to students while sending his praises to the college, he said “from the moment I came here, I had the best time. As soon as you walk through the door, you’re welcomed by everyone – I want you all to remember where it started.”
The ceremony concluded with the Chair of Corporation, Clive Henderson expressing how proud he is of the Higher Education programme at South and City College and wishes the graduates every success in their future careers.
The evening was supported by a fantastic solo performance by HND student, Shannon McLoughlin.
