Amazing work to everyone involved for doing something so special! You can tune into the BBC to see what our students had to say about accessibility in fashion, working with the children at the hospital, and how the college has been the right choice for them.
Our Level 3 Fashion students are creating unique garments for BCH patients, based on each child’s accessibility needs and style wants. All so they can be cool and comfy walking a catwalk on March 6th, for the most stylish fundraiser in all of Birmingham!
This is an amazing opportunity for children who would normally struggle to get custom clothing to express themselves, and for our students to add an accessibility challenge to their CVs.
Our Fashion students went to BCH to meet the children and their families. The students each partnered up with a model for the show, and did some trial modelling to begin adjustments on the outfits.
“We went to the Children’s Hospital to talk to the kids and to ask them a few questions to get to know them, and to get paired up. We had to adjust the patterns of the clothes we made, and make them accessible. Everybody deserves to be fly!”
Karim, L3 Sustainable Fashion & Textiles
“I really love working with young people because they are quite new to the world, so I like to see the enjoyment and excitement they have. Seeing their little smiles has just made my day.”
Alex, L3 Sustainable Fashion & Textiles student
“I got into Fashion because of my grandpa. I didn’t always have much growing up, so I started wearing his clothes. The college tutors taught me all I know about sewing. Before I’d been to this country, I hadn’t even used a sewing machine.”
