About the course

T Levels are new hands-on, technical qualifications equivalent to three A Levels. This two-year qualification is for recent school-leavers who are looking to gain the knowledge and skills to work in the business and administration sector. T-Levels offer a mix of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience during an industry placement. This technical course gives the necessary knowledge and skills for a career in business, providing a sound base for entry into the workforce, or as an apprentice. Also, successful completion of this qualification opens doors for advancing to higher education courses and further training opportunities.

The content provides knowledge and skills applicable to business. It covers commercial awareness, organisational structures, project management, and communication skills, including plan creation. There's a focus on collaborative working, integrating stakeholders into processes. The curriculum emphasises problem-solving, encompassing activities such as cost-benefit analysis and benchmarking with KPIs. Research skills are integrated, highlighting techniques like PESTLE and SWOT analysis.

What are the entry requirements?

16-18 years old and in fulltime education
• GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths. Or
• Level 2 vocational qualification or equivalent in a related subject, e.g. business or
• Administration and a good level of GCSE grades in English and maths.
• You will have a clear idea as to the industry sector you wish to pursue as a career.

Where can I progress next?

Successful completion of this qualification supports progression to entry level job opportunities in business administration. Careers within the business industry include: data analyst, financial and business advisor, marketing manager and operations and events manager. Alternatively you can progress to a higher level of education or an apprenticeship.

Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA. Higher Education: If you are planning to undertake one of our Higher Education courses you can apply for a loan with Student Finance England, or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan with the college to support towards your course fees. How will you learn?

As well as what you will learn in the classroom, you will undertake an industry placement. You will spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% of your time on a 45-day placement to equip you with the knowledge and skills companies are looking for.
