About the course

Are you a recent school leaver wanting to learn to become a carpenter or joiner? Carpenters are in short supply in the industry, they are in demand and are an integral part of any building firm. This Level 1 carpentry course teaches the fundamentals through hands-on, practical learning, perfect for those passionate about the construction industry and aspire to master a specialised trade. Under the guidance of our expert tutors with industry standard workshops at our Bournville (Longbridge) campus, you'll not only acquire essential woodworking knowledge but also practical skills. The course covers a range of skills for wood related crafts. Through hands-on, practical learning, it will prepare you for further learning or entering employment in construction or bench joinery.

This course will introduce you to using tools such as saws, planes, and chisels to how to understand working drawings and types of structures. You will also learn key construction topics such as health and safety, problem-solving, teamwork, and essential communication skills, alongside other transferable skills to prepare you for further study and the workplace.

What do I need?

No formal entry requirements. Evidence of previous work or a commitment to study may be required. Work experience is a vital part of the course and you will be supported in finding a work placement relevant to your study.
