Supported Internship Programme

This is a one year programme for students who want to progress into employment. The programme will help you gain work skills and decide on your career pathway through an extended work placement. You will build confidence in communicating, team building, working on your own initiative and being more independent in the community. You will have an allocated work coach who will support you throughout your course. They will help support you to be able to travel to and from your placement/work experience or employment and also stay with you, until you are confident to do the tasks independently. This course will increase from 3 days to 5 days during the year you are on the course. You will be expected to speak to and visit employers to explore your opportunities in employment

About the course

This course is for students who have an EHCP, are working at Level 1 or above and want to progress into employment. It will help you explore opportunities to get into work through an extended work placement to find employment. A work coach will support you to find a suitable placement in your chosen area and support you until you are able to work independently. You will need to attend college to study an award in employability, functional skills in English and maths. You will also attend a placement/work experience or employment for the rest of the week. You will be allocated a personal tutor who will support you throughout your course and will meet with you once a week to ensure you are making progress and feel supported. A work coach will help you to find your placement and will visit you in the work place. The college will also support you to apply for Access to Work payments if appropriate to helping you find sustainable employment.

What do I need?

We'll check your skills levels at an interview to ensure you are placed on the correct course. You need to be working at or towards Level 1 in English and Maths You must be aged 16 - 24 years old and have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP).
