You’ll be taught by a team of highly qualified lecturers who bring their academic, industry expertise and experience into the classroom. Our lecturers have worked on technical/engineering projects for organisations ranging from Airbus and BAE SYSTEMS to the British Heart Foundation. This course will develop your knowledge and understanding of a range of mechanical engineering subjects, from engineering mathematics to fluid dynamics. Our teaching methods are varied and engaging, we fundamentally believe that you can’t read textbooks and become a good engineer. We holistically develop your skills and knowledge of engineering principles and then put that into practice in the laboratory. You’ll be building and testing mechanical systems and proving that what you’ve learnt in the classroom works in the real-world! To further broaden your experience in the subject, we invite in industry experts, engineers and university academics to give seminars on the latest engineering and technological developments in industry and academia. Moreover, to give you a taste of what’s on offer beyond life at college, we invite former students to speak to our groups and share their experiences. Staff profile – Dr. Chika Amadi, Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering: Before joining the College, Chika was a Teaching Assistant at Loughborough University where he obtained his PhD. After completing his Mechanical Engineering degree, Chika ventured into the oil and gas industry and worked with Daewoo as a Quality Assurance/Quality Control Engineer and later in civil construction industry as Project Coordinator, during which time he completed an MSc in Project Management in Teesside University, UK. Also, Chika had a stint in facility management in Wukari University in Nigeria where he planned and coordinated the maintenance of the University’s facilities, before returning to the UK to embark on and complete his PhD.
You will study a broad range of subjects from ranging from health & safety in engineering, communications and engineering mathematics to specific modules in mechanical engineering and design. Units may be subject to change to best serve the ever-evolving engineering sector. You are also expected to find and take part in work experience during the course.
You will need GCSE grade 5 or above for maths and English language as well as 3 other GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above. You will also need Merit or above for Level 2 BTEC First Extended Certificate in Engineering. All students will also be required to attend and satisfactorily complete a formal induction period.
Students who successfully complete this programme will be eligible to apply for Higher Education programmes such as a higher apprenticeship, a HNC/HND, Foundation Degree, or Undergraduate Degree. Alternatively, you can progress onto employment.
Students who study on the mechanical engineering can look forward to rewarding careers in:
