About the course

This exciting two-year Level 3 Extended Diploma in Fashion Design & Textiles at our Fusion Campus will challenge you to develop an experimental & multi-disciplinary portfolio of work supportive of your own future goals and aspirations related to the creative industry of Fashion Design & Textiles. Fashion design is the creation of design concepts which are then translated into manufactured garments for every occasion. The fashion industry is a worldwide industry which constantly requires a supply of designers and design concepts to feed a voracious consumer demand for clothes and accessories. The UK's Fashion industry is worth £26 billion & 800,000 jobs to the economy, making it the UK's largest creative industry. A textile is a flexible material made by creating an interlocking bundle of yarns or threads, which are produced by spinning raw fibers into long and twisted lengths. Textiles are then formed by weaving, knitting, crocheting, knotting, tatting, felting, bonding, or braiding these yarns together. This course not only teaches you skills, how to visualise but also how to focus on an area and realise progression goals related to your future interests and aspirations. On this course you will be shown how to be highly expressive with your creativity and imaginative intentions whilst considering the meanings and messages you wish to convey within your work. You will be supported by a team of industry professionals with lots of experience in the fields of Fashion Design & Textiles.

Throughout the duration of the course, you will go on trips to local and regional exhibitions to support the development of your work. You will take part in live competitions and work experiences with local employers to gain experience into how your chosen subject looks in context to the world of work. You will experience inspirational talks from guest speakers working within the industry currently. You will have the opportunity to be selected to showcase your work at our end of year exhibition and live events within the year. You will be able to collaborate with other learners from your course as well as other departments. You will be able to use our state of the art facilities and studio spaces adopting a multi-disciplinary approach to your creative practice.

• A portfolio of past or current work you can bring to an interview.
• Commitment and enthusiasm for Fashion Design & Textiles.

Where can I progress next?

Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress onto our successful Higher National Diploma in Fashion. You can also progress onto higher education programmes at other institutions within the fields of Fashion Design & Textiles as well as go into employment working as a Fashion or Textiles Designer.
