This course teaches you the skills you will need to work in the Fine Art and Illustration industry; it will enable you to focus on an area of personal interest and realise progression goals related to your future aspirations. On this course you will be shown how to be highly expressive with your creativity and imaginative intentions whilst considering the meanings and messages you wish to convey within your work. You will be supported by a team of industry professionals with lots of experience in the fields of Fine Art & illustration. During the first year of the course you will explore a range of fun and exciting materials, techniques and processes related to the creative industry of fine art & illustration, in context to themes. You will document your work and review your practice on an on-going basis. In the second year you will focus on an area within fine art or illustration of your own choice, respond to set themes and develop a final major project of work which has the exciting opportunity to be showcased at our end of year exhibition. Within the second year you will be supported to secure your progression and career goals through the development of a professional portfolio of work you can be proud of, to celebrate your creative journey with us here at South & City College. You will also find out about a range of progression routes into the industry.
Throughout the duration of the course, you will go on trips to local and regional exhibitions to support the development of your work. You will take part in live projects and work experience with local employers to gain experience into how your chosen subject looks in context to the world of work. You will experience inspirational talks from guest speakers currently working within the industry. You will have the opportunity to be selected to showcase your work at our end of year exhibition and live events within the year. You will be able to collaborate with other learners from your course as well as other departments. You will also be able to use our state of the art facilities and studio spaces adopting a multi-disciplinary approach to your creative practice.
To join this exciting course you will need:
• A portfolio of past or current work you can bring to an interview.
• Commitment and enthusiasm for fine art & illustration.
• 4 GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above including Art, Maths and English

Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress onto our successful Foundation Diploma in Art, Design, and Media Practice. You can also progress onto higher education programmes at other institutions within the fields of fine art & illustration as well as go into employment working as an artist or illustrator.
