About the course

This two-year Level 3 course is designed for adults aged 19 and above who aspire to become electricians in the building services engineering sector. It provides comprehensive training to gain the necessary skills for employment and career advancement. Working as an electrician in construction involves significant responsibility, as strict safety regulations must be adhered to. Remaining up-to-date on relevant legislation concerning electrical equipment is essential. Like other construction professions, this role offers diverse opportunities to work on various projects. Electricians may be tasked with ensuring safe power supply to residential properties or contribute to large-scale construction and engineering projects as part of a team.

You will cover compulsory aspects such as: working safely and effectively, design, construct, test and commission electrical systems, methods of supervision, electrical science and principles, regulations and law, diagnose and repair electrical faults.

What are the entry requirements?

Maths and English grade must be a Minimum of GCSE 4/C or Functional skills at L2 in both subjects and must have Level 2 in Electrical Installation either 2365 L2 or 8202 L2

Where can I progress next?

The course provides a solid foundation for progression to Level 4 qualifications, an apprenticeship or into work.



Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA.
