About the course

This programme is mainly for learners 16-18 or those with an EHCP who have additional needs and who want to improve their own independence. 

If you would like to build on your confidence when using public transport, planning to meet friends, cook for yourself or any other areas in day to day life, this is the course for you. Your tutor will work with you to help you identify areas you feel need improvement and set individual goals and targets you can work towards.

Preparation for Adult Living Age 16-18, 16-18 with EHCP or adult

You will set goals with your personal tutor to work towards. This might be planning a visit, learning to understand a bus timetable or buying ingredients and cooking a meal.    

You will explore subjects that will help you become more independent and build your confidence when out in the community. You will be encouraged to travel to new places, make new friends, how to cook for yourself and understand how to dress and behave in a variety of new situations.

Everyday Lifeskills Working at or below Entry 1

Exploring Independence Working at or towards Entry 1

Community Independence able to demonstrate prior qualifications at E2 or above

Preparing for Adulthood Working at or towards Entry 3

Full time course over 3 days, at college. 

Where can I progress next?

Once completed you could progress to the next level course and continue with your learning to be more independent and have less support in all aspects of your college life.

How will you learn?

Your timetable will consist of a mixture of time in college and in the community. You will be expected to take part in various activities and complete portfolio work while being fully supported by your tutor. 

You will have the opportunity to use public transport, travel by college minibus, cook for yourself, take part in enrichment activities, take part in fun and interactive English and maths sessions and be fully involved in the college community.

Your personal tutor will encourage you to build on your own skills and confidence during weekly tutorials, goal setting and regular reviews.
