This course includes tutorials, mandatory work experience and workshops to add to your learning experience. You will have the opportunity to attend external events which have included WorldSkills Live, Salon International, Blackpool Winter Gardens and The Beauty Show at the NEC. Additionally you will be trained to work with professional products such as Dermalogica and Elemis. To achieve the Beauty and Spa Therapy Technical Diploma Level 3, you must successfully complete the mandatory assessment components which comprise of the Level 3 Technical Diploma in Beauty Therapy, a theory exam and a synoptic assignment (practical assessment). In addition, you must achieve the mandatory employer involvement requirement for this qualification before you can be awarded a qualification grade. Using these work-related learning opportunities, you can further develop your skills, leading to many exciting career opportunities with employment options in leisure facilities, cruise liners, health spas, or as a self-employed therapist. You will need beauty therapy equipment at the cost of approximately £200 (subject to change) which includes a uniform. The equipment is ordered through the college at the time of enrolment, you may make an application to the learner support fund for help towards the cost; this award is subject to your individual circumstances. If you are not eligible for learning support fund you will be liable for the full cost of the equipment. Uniform in the salons is compulsory and consists of the tunic top and trousers supplied in your equipment. You must supply your own plain black shoes with a closed toe and heel (strictly no trainers). Study programme 16-18 yrs. only This course is year 1 of the study programme depending on your GCSE results. If you did not achieve a grade 4 GCSE or grade 4 GCSE in English and maths, you will need to complete either GCSE or Functional Skills at the appropriate level. You may have current and continued work experience in a beauty/nail salon, in which you can enrol onto the course upon a successful interview. You can also enrol if you have successfully completed a Level 2 technical diploma in relevant subject. Due to the externally set and externally marked exam, you will need to complete an initial assessment for Level 1 English, GCSE grade 3 or above in English language or Level 1 or above in Functional Skills.
Achievement of the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Beauty and Spa Therapy demonstrates to an employer that you possess the skills and knowledge in health & safety, customer service and have the necessary advanced technical skills such as body massage, aromatherapy, body and facial electrotherapy.
This qualification could lead to a job as a senior beauty/spa therapist working in one of the following establishments:
• Beauty salon
• Spa
• Cruise ship
• Hotel salon
You may also progress onto Higher Education and enrol onto a Foundation Degree in a related subject.
