You will be able to study both English and maths GCSE - depending on your previous achievements and initial assessment results. There is also an option to study Combined Science if required for your progression. This is only available at our Bournville campus in Longbridge. You will study Physics, Biology and Chemistry and this qualification is equivalent to two GCSEs. Many of our GCSE students' progress onto the wide range of Access to HE courses that we offer. You will be provided with a personal development session each week to review progress and set targets to ensure success.
The GCSE team specialises in teaching adults, we know what it's like to return to learning and we're here to help you to achieve your goals. GCSE programmes are assessed at the end of the course by a series of written examinations. GCSE English also includes a speaking and listening component.
To be considered for GCSE you will need a minimum of a Grade 3 or D in GCSE English and maths or Functional Skills Level 2 in maths and English. You may also be required to sit an initial assessment to ensure you are enrolled onto the most suitable level.
Achieving Grade 4 and above in GCSE English and maths will open many doors to further education courses at the college, including Access to Higher Education courses. A good pass grade in GCSEs are also seen by many employers to be a vital indicator of your English and maths ability for employment.
