Our perfectly formed Fashion House is located 5 minutes from the Bullring and our Digbeth campus, the heart of Birmingham’s shopping district. Ideal for budding designers, the Fusion Centre offers workshops, industry-trained tutors and the opportunity to design your own collection for the annual fashion show so you can show off your talents During your time on the course, you will explore a range of fun and exciting materials, techniques and processes related to Fashion in context to themes. You will document your work and review your practice on a one-going basis. The course will teach you skills in pattern cutting, sewing and garment construction. These skills will support you to progress with us next year at Level 3. Your work has the exciting opportunity to be showcased at our end of year Fashion Show and shows throughout the year. This course is designed to enable you to develop skills relevant to the industry of fashion. You will gain an insight into the fashion industry and skills required within it. You will explore a range of fun skills that will then be supportive to secure your progression and career goals with us at Level 3 through the development of a professional portfolio of work you can be proud of to celebrate your creative journey with us here at South & City College on your Level 2.
Throughout the duration of the course, there will be trips to local and regional exhibitions to support the development of your work. You will take part in live competitions and work experience with local employers to gain experience into how your chosen subject looks in context to the world of work. You will experience inspirational talks from guest speakers working within the industry currently. You will have the opportunity to be selected to showcase your work at our end of year exhibition and live events within the year. You will also be able to collaborate with other learners from your course as well as other subject areas. You will be able to use our state-of-the-art facilities and studio spaces adopting a multi-disciplinary approach to your creative practice. You will also benefit from progression talks with previous students and one to ones focusing on you and your aspirations.
To join this exciting course you will need:
• A portfolio of past or current work you can bring to an interview.
• Commitment and enthusiasm for fashion, sewing, pattern cutting & garment construction.
You will also need to fulfil one of the criteria below:
• Three GCSEs grade 3 or above.
• Level 1 Qualification.

Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress onto our Level 3 in Fashion or you could go into employment working in pattern cutting, garment technology, design teams and Styling, as a CAD Technician, in Marketing or Buying.
