This one-year qualification is for you if you are a school-leaver looking to start a career in the maintenance of motor vehicles. You will gain the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to start a career as a mechanic/ technician in the motor vehicle service and repair industry. Achieving this introductory automotive qualification gives you the background knowledge you need to be able to advance onto a Level 2 or Level 3 course or an apprenticeship. Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success on your course, your chosen vocation and life in general. Throughout the course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes.
The course covers various study modules essential for understanding motor vehicle mechanics. These include chassis & construction, engines, starting & charging systems, service & repair techniques, steering & suspension mechanisms, wheels & tyres, as well as vehicle lighting & electronics. Each module delves into specific aspects crucial for understanding and working with automotive technology and maintenance.
There are no specific entry requirements, however you will undertake an assessment in English and maths.
You could progress on to the Level 2 course or consider an apprenticeship.
You will develop a clear understanding of the maintenance procedures required to maintain systems and will work on a range of vehicles in our purpose built motor vehicle workshops. With this course you’ll be taking an important step forward in the next stage of your career in the motor industry, gaining the talents employers are keen to employ.
