An Early Years Educator:
• Plans and supervises child initiated and adult led activities which are based around the needs and interests of each individual child
• Supports children to develop numeracy and language skills through games and play
• Has key person responsibility to help ensure each child feels safe and secure
• Observes each child and shapes their learning experience to reflect their observations
• Meets the care needs of the individual child such as feeding, changing nappies and administration of medicine
• Works in partnership with other colleagues, parents and/or carers or other professionals to meet the individual needs of each child
• With additional experience, an Early Years Educator can become the manager of an early years setting
Support healthy lifestyles through the provision of exercise,food and nutrition
Support physical care routines
Promote children’s emotional wellbeing
Understand how to support children who are unwell
Understand legislation relating to the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children
Follow legislation relating to equality, diversity and inclusive practice
Understand the value of play in early years
Promote children’s speech, language and communication
Promote children’s physical, personal, social and emotional development
Support children with additional needs
Use observation,assessment and planning to promote the development of children
Plan, lead and review play opportunities which support children’s learning and development
Develop children’s emergent literacy and numeracy skills
Support children’s transition to school
Apprentices without level 2 English and mathematics will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end point assessment
Learners can progress to the Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced practitioner or other higher level early year’s qualifications.
