This apprenticeship is designed by key employers in the gas industry and is one of the new 'trailblazer apprenticeships'. It provides the skills and underpinning knowledge for both basic and advanced gas systems and includes an end-test at the end of the apprenticeship which includes both a knowledge and practical skills test. This qualification is aimed at new technicians entering the gas industry who wish to be trained in the skills and knowledge associated with basic and complex gas systems. This includes the routine maintenance, reactive maintenance and commissioning and de-commissioning of gas appliances in a variety of working environments.
You will learn on the job in the work environment, or in the classroom with realistic situations and appliances.
You will be assessed in a number of ways – including knowledge questions, Gas Safety RWE practical, a portfolio of evidence and observation.
You can choose the pathway that demonstrates the specialist knowledge and skills you have developed. These could include:
• Gas emergencies
• Gas installation and maintenance for cookers, tumble dryers, leisure, domestic space heating, wet central heating and domestic warm air
• Safe working practices
• Planning work activities
• Maintaining a safe working environment
• Gas Safety
A good level of maths and English will be required for the course.
You can continue into employment as a full time gas engineer or you can progress to Level 4 HNC Building Services.
