This full-time course is designed for students who have been away from study for some time and want to go to university. It is the equivalent of studying three A Levels in 9 months, so it is a very intensive programme. You will study chemistry, biology, physics and skills for learning.
‘Courses, such as the Access to higher education programme, have been developed to match local healthcare sector needs.’ Ofsted, 2018
The aim of this course is to provide a broad scientific knowledge for students interested in continuing their science education. The course is delivered through a combination of lectures, practical experiments and self-directed learning. It is assessed via a combination of coursework and controlled examinations.
Each subject offers 5 units, each unit is worth 3 credits. You need 60 credits in order to pass the course. You are advised to contact universities prior to applying to check that you will be considered for your chosen degree if you pass the course. All students attend weekly tutorials which are designed to assist with study skills, confidence building and applying for university.
