Overview

This qualification offers you the opportunity to learn about the language skills required when working in the community as an interpreter. You will become more aware of how language changes depending on the situation. There is an opportunity to look at how public and voluntary service sectors work and engage with communities.

Course description

Many people will find they act as translators and interpreters for family and friends in their everyday lives. The role of the community interpreter is becoming increasingly important in our diverse communities. The interpreter acts as a bridge between communities and helps individuals to engage with services and situations which might otherwise not be possible for them.

This qualification offers the opportunity for learners who are speakers of other languages to learn about community interpreting. This qualification is not a training course to become an interpreter and those undertaking paid assignments in the future will be expected to have achieved a minimum of a Level 3 interpreting qualification.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation and with health and safety of our students as a priority, we have redesigned this course to include a mixture of classroom-based and online learning.
