Barbering CG Advanced Technical Diploma
This is the latest, most up-to-date qualification in barbering. This Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Barbering aims to provide you with a range of specialist technical practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you for employment or further training within the barbering industry.
Barbering has really taken off with men paying a great deal more attention to how they wish to see themselves. Male grooming continues to evolve as a result of social media and the need to look ‘Instagram’ ready. According to The Telegraph, barber shops were the fastest growing retail category in 2018 and doesn’t look like it’s slowing down. And with that comes a greater requirement for barbers in the industry. So if you’re looking to become a barber, you could well be in great demand.

The Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Barbering qualification covers a very wide range of skills and knowledge required for working in the barbering industry.
You will work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. The different ways in which college could support your learning, by working with both local and national hairdressing businesses, include:
- structured work-experience or work placements
- your attendance at classes or lectures given by industry experts
- employers input into projects and exercises
- employers who act as ‘expert witnesses' to contribute to the assessment of your work. This may occasionally be outside of your college timetable.
Your course also includes tutorials, mandatory work experience and workshops.You will have the opportunity to attend external events including Salon International and Blackpool Winter Gardens.
To achieve the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Barbering you must successfully complete the mandatory assessment components. These are: Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Barbering - Theory exam - Synoptic assignment (practical assessment). In addition, you must achieve the mandatory employer involvement requirement for this qualification before you can be awarded a qualification grade.
You will work in our purpose built barbershop using high street branded products and we are stockists of professional products such as American Crew, Reuzel barbering products Wella, Milkshake, Schwarzkopf and Keracare. All your teachers are highly experienced barbers they have expertise in all hair types which will ensure you are able to offer services to a wide variety of clients with all hair types, and they will encourage you to develop your own personal barbering style. The barbering team are passionate about barbering and ensuring the next generation of barbers is highly skilled and ready to gain employment. This maybe in high street salons, cruise ships, hotels, self-employed, and freelance.

You will need barbering equipment and the cost is approx £250 (subject to change) which includes a uniform top. The equipment is ordered through the college at the time of enrolment, you may make an application to the learner support fund for help towards the cost and this award is subject to your individual circumstances. If you are not eligible for learning support fund you will be liable for the full cost of the equipment. Uniform in the salons is compulsory and this consists of the tunic top supplied in your equipment, you must supply yourself, plain black shoes with a closed in toe and heel (strictly no trainers) and plain black trousers (no leggings or jeans).
Study programme 16-18 yrs:
This course is year 2 or 3 of the study programme depending on your GCSE results. If you did not achieve GCSE grade C/4 in English and maths you will need to complete either GCSE or Functional Skills at the appropriate level. The level you will complete is based on your GCSE grades or previous achievement at Functional Skills. You will need to bring proof of your grades in induction which could be either the statement of achievement or your certificates.

- Promote and sell products and services
- Hair relaxing services
- Design and create patterns in hair
- Colour and lighten men's hair
- Creative hair design skills
- Specialist hair and scalp treatments
