Overview

This Level 3 course is the latest, most up-to-date qualification in hairdressing. It is suitable for adults and young learners who have completed Level 2 in hairdressing. The course aims to provide a range of specialist practical skills and knowledge which will get you ready to seek employment, run your own business or become a freelance hairdresser.

Course description

The Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Hairdressing covers a very wide range of skills and knowledge required for working in the hairdressing industry.

You will work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. The different ways in which the college could support your learning include:

  • Structured work-experience or work placements
  • Your attendance at classes or lectures given by industry experts
  • Employers input into projects and exercises
  • Employers who act as ‘expert witnesses' to contribute to the assessment of your work. This maybe on occasions outside of your college timetable

To achieve the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Hairdressing, you must successfully complete the mandatory assessment components these are: Theory exam - Synoptic assignment (practical assessment). In addition, you must achieve the mandatory employer involvement requirement for this qualification before you can be awarded a qualification grade.

You will need hairdressing equipment and the cost is approx £200 (subject to change) which includes a uniform top. The equipment is ordered through the college at the time of enrolment, you may make an application to the Learner Support Fund for help towards the cost and this award is subject to your individual circumstances. If you are not eligible for the Learner Support Fund, you will be liable for the full cost of the equipment.

Uniform in the salons is compulsory and this consists of the tunic top supplied in your equipment, you must also supply: plain black shoes with a closed in toe and heel (strictly no trainers) and plain black trousers (no leggings or jeans).

Study programme 16-18 yrs ONLY This course is part of the study programme depending on your GCSE results If you did not achieve a grade 4 GCSE in English and maths You will need to complete either GCSE or Functional Skills at the appropriate level. The level you will complete is based on your GCSE grades or previous achievement at functional skills. You will need to bring proof of your grades in induction either the statement of achievement or your certificates.

Your course also includes tutorial, mandatory work experience and workshops. You will have opportunity to attend external events including the skills show, salon international and Blackpool Winter Gardens, the skills show.

You will work in our purpose built salons using high street branded products and we are stockists of professional products such as Wella, Milkshake, Schwarzkopf and Keracare. All your teachers are highly experienced hairdressers they have expertise in all hair types which will ensure you are able to offer services to a wide variety of clients with all hair types, and they will encourage you to develop your own personal hairdressing style. The hairdressing team are passionate about hairdressing and ensuring the next generation of hairdressers is highly skilled and ready to gain employment. This maybe in high street salons, cruise ships, hotels, self-employed, free lance and spa’s. Our salons are used by Wella and Milkshake to offer regular seminars to salons nationwide.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation and with health and safety of our students as a priority, we have redesigned this course to include a mixture of classroom-based and online learning.
