There are around 157,000 people employed as hairdressers and barbers. Hair and Barbering salons are evolving, no longer only providing traditional services but also offering additional treatments such as threading and shaving services. Become part of this glamorous industry by getting hands-on on one of our courses.

We run hairdressing and barbering courses from three of our campuses, in real, purpose-built salons. Our Barber shop in Digbeth is a dedicated barber shop in the heart of the city centre. You will learn from tutors who have years of experience working in the industry and they’ll bring their real life experiences to the classroom. You will be hands-on in your course, getting stuck in from day one. The salons are equipped with the facilities and products found in high street salons.

The experience you will receive by studying at South and City College is up to date and very relevant to the world of work. You will work on paying clients as our salons are open to the public. You will learn about customer service, customer needs and uses your newly found skills on customers who are paying for their treatment. Alongside this, you will be able to take part in our annual hair and barbering show held at the college, take part in competitions, visits and workshops from employers and visiting trade fares such as Barbers Connect and Salon International. Our students are responsible for the hairstyles of models at the college’s fashion shows and we have even had students work on a film set.
