Overview

The Beauty Therapy Technical Diploma Level 3 aims to provide you with a range of specialist technical practical skills and knowledge, which will give you the skills to seek employment or progress onto Higher Education within the beauty & spa therapy industry. The teaching will take place in a practical working environment within our commercial salons with the most up-to-date facilities and equipment.

Our courses will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to thrive and progress in the glamorous beauty therapy industry. Training takes place in a practical working environment (our industry standard training/commercial salons) and within our teaching rooms.

We will help you get real experience with employers and this may include:

  • Structured work-experience or work placements
  • Classes or lectures given by industry experts in college
  • Employer input into projects and exercises
  • Employers who act as ‘expert witnesses' to contribute to the assessment of your work. This may occasionally be outside of your college timetable

Course description

This course includes tutorials, mandatory work experience and workshops to add to your learning experience. You will have the opportunity to attend external events which have included WorldSkills Live, Salon International, Blackpool Winter Gardens and The Beauty Show at the NEC. Additionally you will be trained to work with professional products such as Dermalogica and Elemis.

To achieve the Beauty and Spa Therapy Technical Diploma Level 3, you must successfully complete the mandatory assessment components which comprise of the Level 3 Technical Diploma in Beauty Therapy, a theory exam and a synoptic assignment (practical assessment). In addition, you must achieve the mandatory employer involvement requirement for this qualification before you can be awarded a qualification grade.

Using these work-related learning opportunities, you can further develop your skills, leading to many exciting career opportunities with employment options in leisure facilities, cruise liners, health spas, or as a self-employed therapist.

You will need beauty therapy equipment at the cost of approximately £200 (subject to change) which includes a uniform. The equipment is ordered through the college at the time of enrolment, you may make an application to the learner support fund for help towards the cost; this award is subject to your individual circumstances. If you are not eligible for learning support fund you will be liable for the full cost of the equipment. Uniform in the salons is compulsory and consists of the tunic top and trousers supplied in your equipment. You must supply your own plain black shoes with a closed toe and heel (strictly no trainers).

Study programme 16-18 yrs only This course is year 1 of the study programme depending on your GCSE results. If you did not achieve a grade 4 GCSE or grade 4 GCSE in English and maths, you will need to complete either GCSE or Functional Skills at the appropriate level. The level you will complete is based on your GCSE grades or previous achievement at Functional Skills. You will need to bring proof of your grades to induction in the form of a statement of achievement or your certificates.
