Overview

This is a great introductory course for young people wanting to start studying and eventually work in the IT and computing industries, but are not ready to study at Level 2.

Course description

The aim of this course will be to focus on strengthening English language, literacy and numeracy skills to support development of these areas, in preparation for progression onto our main vocational programme.

This course offers a range of really engaging IT units, which also cover important curriculum areas and will support you to acquire technical IT skills and how to synthesise information, analyse and reflect so that you learn important study skills, needed to move forward. As part of this, you will be able to focus on developing your English language speaking, listening, reading and writing to bridge those gaps, especially if you are a second language (ESOL) learner.

To help prepare you for a higher level course and to work in the IT iindustry, as well as communication skills, you will also be supported with your interpersonal, academic, employability and independent learning skills development.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation and with health and safety of our students as a priority, we have redesigned this course to include a mixture of classroom-based and online learning.

What areas will I study?

In the first part of the course you will study a range of IT subjects, including:

  • Website software
  • Digital design and graphics
  • Imaging software
  • Developing computer games and puzzles
  • Spreadsheet software (as an introduction to data analytics

And in the second half you will have an introduction to exciting science, technology, engineering or maths (STEM) related subjects: Robotics and AI - learn to build and programme automated devices amd robot kits

These subjects will offer enjoyable development of IT and Computing/STEM skills along with English and maths throughout.
