Overview

Learn about two key areas: business and digital technology and how IT is the thread running through all business operations and communications. Not only will you cover fundamental business strategies and practices but see how digital technology impacts on businesses gaining greater efficiency and a competitive advantage.

Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, certainly knew how to use IT to grow one of the world's most successful organisations and become the richest man in the process!

Course description

This course merges two areas of study to create an exciting programme where you will grasp how business depends on IT to run effectively and how technology can be exploited to assist in business success. You will learn modern business thinking and practices and develop your skills in practical assignment and projects in both business and IT.

The course runs from January until July and is an intensive and packed programme with vocational studies as well as English and maths Functional Skills classes and the chance to get qualifications in these.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation and with health and safety of our students as a priority, we have redesigned this course to include a mixture of classroom-based and online learning.

This qualification provides an engaging, practical and relevant introduction to the world of business.

Mandatory units from BTEC First Award in Business

  • Unit 1: Introduction to Business
  • Unit 2: Finance for Business (External)
  • Unit 3: Enterprise in the Business World

Plus one of the following:

  • Unit 4: Promoting a Brand
  • Unit 5: Principles of Customer Service

How do websites work? How do emails reach your computer? How does the use of computer applications affect your daily life and how businesses work?

Mandatory units from BTEC First Award in Creative Information Technology

  • The Online World External
  • A Digital Portfolio Plus two of the following:
  • Spreadsheet Development
  • Database Development
  • Website Development
