Modern engineering requires an increasing level of interaction between engineering disciplines that have traditionally been considered to be largely independent. Employers are consequently seeking engineers and technicians with a wide knowledge of many fields rather than a specialised knowledge in one particular area.
The Level 2 programme provides you with a broad engineering education that covers a wide range of engineering principles embracing mechanical, manufacturing and electrical/electronic engineering. You will experience an interactive way of learning. Practical and experimental classes offer you hands-on experience to complement your course's more theoretical modules, while innovative design-build-test projects replace the more traditional lesson and lab sessions.
The units covered are: Unit 1 The Engineering World Unit 2 Investigating and Engineered Product Unit 3 Health and Safety in Engineering Unit 5 Engineering Materials Unit 8 Electronic Circuit Design and Construction Unit 9 Interpreting and using Engineering information Unit 10 Mathematics for Engineering
Unit 11 Electrical and Mechanical Science for Engineering Unit 12 Engineering Design Unit 13 Engineering Assemble Unit 21 Introduction to Communications for Engineering Unit 25 Operation and Maintenance of Electronic Systems and Components
Students will need to have a grade 4 or higher in maths and a grade 3 in English Language, as well as one of the following: BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Engineering or a related subject. Two GCSEs at grades 3 (D) or above Related work experience Other related Level 1 or 2 qualifications will be considered
All students will also be required to attend and satisfactorily complete a formal induction period
Students who successfully complete this programme will be eligible to apply for the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
