Fashion - Progression to Higher Education
This course is aimed at adult learners, to give them the opportunity to gain the qualifications to progress onto a Higher National Diploma. It is suited for those who have been out of education and are interested in learning about the different areas of the fashion, textiles and the clothing industry, while developing academic skills. Our workrooms benefit from industry standard machinery and equipment for garment manufacture and pattern cutting. We also have a range of textile and machine embroidery equipment.
This qualification is a one-year, part-time programme and is equal to 1.5 A Levels. The majority of students choose to progress onto our Higher National Diploma in Fashion and Textiles or into employment. Assessment is continuous throughout the programme, culminating in an end of year fashion show.
We offer a range of enrichment opportunities throughout the year, such as visits to London for exhibitions and for sourcing fabrics. We also take full advantage of what Birmingham has to offer, with regular visits to the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery as well as exhibitions in local art galleries. We may also do a trip abroad to visit the fashion capitals of Europe; during this academic year our students enjoyed a trip to Paris.
