Preparation for Employment - Construction
This course will suit you if you are a school leaver who may need extra support to progress to technical qualifications in construction trades. It will introduce you to the construction industry as a whole, alongside a number of trades, including carpentry & joinery, landscaping & horticulture and tiling, painting & decorating. You will learn the basic skills in a range of trades, offering you a multi-skilled qualification and allowing you to progress in the area that interested you the most.
The course will give you an ideal grounding in general construction and how each trade contributes to the completion of a successful project. Our experienced tutors will help you to develop your learning and skills, so that you can become competent in a range of subjects.
This course is practical and work related, with classroom-based units and projects that reflect this. This will be supplemented with industry visits and potential work experience placements that will help with developing knowledge and practical application of skills.
The course is offered at Entry Level 3 and Level 1, with English, maths and ICT available at the level you need.
Due to the current COVID-19 situation and with health and safety of our students as a priority, we have redesigned this course to include a mixture of classroom-based and online learning.
What areas will I study?
Multi-skills in construction including:
- Carpentry and joinery
- Horticulture and hard landscaping
- Painting and decorating
You will also continue to study Functional Skills maths, English and ICT and you'll have a tutorial each week with your personal tutor to keep you on track.
