Ever wonder how games are made? Do you want to know how game development tools work and learn the tricks of the trade to make entertaining and appealing experiences for gamers? This course will guide you through the practices and processes used by game developers to create those experiences

Course description

During this course you will develop an understanding of the games industry through a range of practical and theoretical projects.

This course is for those that want to do more than play games, gameplay forms part of the content but a very small part, the focus is only developing the technical and creative know-how to create games. 

The course is a highly practical and project based. You will work on a range of mini projects develop a range of skills allowing you to find your chosen specialism that you will be able to focus on whilst developing your final major project.

All work is internally assessed, there are no exams.

Tutors have games and media industry experience and are highly skilled with software, this includes a Certified 3ds Max Professional. You will learn in the heart of Birmingham’s creative district in Digbeth and have the chance to get involved in exciting projects and work experience opportunities both within the college and for external organisation.

  • Explore scripting languages, traditional and visual scripting
  • Design, building and testing level designs
  • Production management
  • Research, plan and manage the development of game design projects.
  • Building audiences for games, including pitching and marketing.
  • Develop a contextual awareness of different perspectives and approaches within games development to solve problems through practical application.
  • Exploring career opportunities with games and related industries.
