Awareness of Dementia Award
This qualification aims to develop the knowledge and skills required when providing positive care for people with dementia and their families. The Level 2 Award provides an awareness of the causes and symptoms of dementia. This qualification is aligned to the National Dementia Strategy.
This qualification is suitable for adult learners who want to work in social care in either local authority or private care environments. It is also suitable for qualified practitioners who have not covered dementia care in previous qualifications.
These qualifications aim to develop the knowledge and skills that will aid learners in providing positive care for people with dementia and their families. The Level 2 Award consists of knowledge only units and provides an awareness of the causes and symptoms of dementia.
The Level 2 Award helps to develop skills that are needed in the workplace when working under supervision. They are aligned to the National Dementia Strategy and are suitable for a wide range of learners including those working or looking to work in local authority or private care environments.
What areas will I study?
It will be assessed by your Tutor or Assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace (if appropriate), a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task.
The units you will study include:
- Dementia awareness
- The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
- Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
- Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
