This qualification is designed for learners who are interested in the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses and careers both within the IT industry, as well as other industries where IT knowledge and skills is an advantage.

Description

Study the role of computer systems and how to effectively select and use appropriate IT systems. You will explore the relationships between the hardware and software that form an IT system and the impact that they have on organisations and individuals.

You will examine the structure of data and its origins, and how an efficient data design follows through to an effective and useful database to manage information.

You will study the underpinning concepts and implications of programming languages to design, develop and test computer programs.

You will discover how social media can be used in a business context, exploring different social media websites, the ways in which they can be used and the potential pitfalls when using them for business purposes. You will use social media strategies for business purposes to achieve specific aims and objectives.

Entry Criteria

You will need 6 GCSE’s at grade 4 and above, including maths and English Language (at pass grade and above) or a Level 2 Diploma in IT at Distinction with GCSE maths and English at pass grade.

What Next

Successful completion of this course can lead to an Extended Diploma in Level 3 and progression to higher education at degree or HND level. It also enables learners to develop knowledge and skills needed for entry-level roles related to IT including vocational apprenticeship roles and trainee/entry-level roles in software development, web/content development, mobile apps design, games design, programming and IT/business analysis support.
