This level 3 qualification is a specialist course designed to give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills for a career in photography. You will learn about the full range of digital camera controls and a variety of photography disciplines such as landscape, still life and portraiture. You will also explore studio photography and lighting, and use a variety of the latest photography software applications that you would use in the photography industry.
The course is run in two parts. In your first year, you will study for a 90 credit diploma and if successful you can progress onto the second year to gain the full Extended Diploma. In the first year of the course, you will gain a general understanding of photography, the technical aspects and photographic composition as well as post production in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Dreamweaver, Flash MX and Finalcut Pro, all of which will be used on both Windows and MAC. These are used to ensure that you are fully prepared to work in the photography industry.
Year two will bring the opportunity to specialise. You will be taught up-to-date photographic media techniques and technologies such as HD photography through work out on location or in the college's fully equipped studio.
To help build your portfolio, experience and confidence, you will have the chance to attend events and trips at the college as a professional photographer, with the possibility of your work being used in the college's marketing or in the local press.
