Music (Production or Performance) (A Level equivalent)
Music Performance or Music Production BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma is designed for students who would like to explore their options of a career in the music industry as either a performer or composer, or within music studio production and music events. The subsidiary as a combination alongside other A Levels will allow you to progress to a degree course or seek employment within the music industry.
‘…standards of work are strong.’ Ofsted, 2018
The course will focus on developing your music performance skills as part of an ensemble and as a solo musician, or the route of music production and events is designed for anyone that isn't a musician but would still like to be a part of the music industry. The course will explore these subjects as practical assignments with written assessments to demonstrate understanding of the subjects covered. The course also develops a wide range of excellent transferable skills to include project management, communication and employability.
Due to the current COVID-19 situation and with health and safety of our students as a priority, we have redesigned this course to include a mixture of classroom-based and online learning.
What areas will I study?
The course is divided into two years of study and is based flexibly around building a portfolio of units which are assessed at Pass, Merit or Distinction. Students can at the end of the first or second year gain UCAS tariff points for university. It should be noted that most universities accept BTEC vocational qualifications alongside an A Level programme of study, however, it would be expected that these are at a Distinction or Distinction* grade.
The units you study will depend on the route you choose:
- Option one: Music performance and composition (you need to be able to play an instrument to basic level or be a vocalist)
- Option two: Music production and live events (you do not need to play an instrument for this course but must show your enthusiasm to succeed in the subject)
