Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA)
This course is for those who would like to teach English to speakers of other languages (ESOL). It is an introductory course for those who have little or no previous experience of teaching in this subject area. It is also suitable for teachers who are qualified to teach other curriculum areas but wish to gain an ESOL specialism.
The Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) course starts in October each year.
CELTA is a practical course with a focus on the principles of effective language teaching. You will undertake a total of six hours teaching practice working with ESOL classes at two levels of ability. You will complete four written assignments and undertake six hours of observation of experienced teachers. In addition, you will be required to research and prepare for teaching and assignments which may involve up to 10 hours of study at home each week. You will be assessed throughout the course with no final examination.
The course is for one day each week for 25 weeks, starting in mid-October and finishing in early June.
The college fee does not include the Cambridge registration fee, which is an additional cost to be confirmed.
