Summary

This course will give you a thorough understanding of the early years sector. You will be linked with work placements, giving you the knowledge and skills sought by employers.

Description

You will learn about the underlying principles, techniques and processes used in the early years sector and develop an understanding of contemporary issues in the industry. The course will be supplemented with industry visits and key note speaker sessions. You will also expand your knowledge of the diverse needs of young children in a variety of settings, develop a sense of self-awareness in a work environment through decision making, and gain leadership and teambuilding skills.

What Next

You can progress onto the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies with Birmingham City University to gain a full degree. You may also seek an unqualified teaching post under the Registered Teacher Programme, or go into employment within an early years setting.

Entry Criteria

You will need to be aged 18 years or over on or before 31 August of the academic year the course commences.

You will need at least one of the following:

  • 48 UCAS tariff points or
  • An appropriate level 3 qualification. For example a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Early Years, NVQ, CACHE Diploma, or Advanced Apprenticeship or
  • Access to HE qualification

  • All students must have a valid Disclosure and Barring Service check. It is each student’s responsibility to ensure this is in place before the start of the course.
