salons launch

An investment by South & City College Birmingham will take both customers and students of the college’s salons to the next level of high-end hair and beauty treatments.

Last week, Joanne Malin, TV news presenter, relaunched Urban Serenity and Urban Elegance salons, based at Bournville College in Longbridge. The launch was to celebrate partnerships with suppliers of premium hair and beauty products and the investment in three high-end ELEMIS BIOTEC facial treatment machines. The machines, normally only seen in prestigious spas, deliver new highly-effective, super-charged facial treatments, enhancing the skin's ability to repair, renew and re-tone.

Level 3 beauty students will benefit from seeing these machines in action, as the college is the only one within the region to have them. As part of the relationship with ELEMIS, two high-performing Level 3 beauty students each term will be rewarded with a five-day BIOTEC training session, which will significantly enhance their CV and future employability prospects.

Samantha Rabone, Elemis Area Manager said “ELEMIS have worked with Urban Serenity beauty salon for some time now. Our relationship is developing further and we are thrilled to be launching the most advanced facial treatments using our BIOTEC machine. It is a pleasure to support the college and work with professionals that are dedicated to providing phenomenal results to their clients.”

The new relationship with Milkshake, a salon professional hair care brand was also celebrated. Milkshake are a vegetarian friendly brand, which only uses natural ingredients. The hair care products are fast becoming a favourite with hairdressers, stylists and beauty editors across the globe.

Darren Boon, Milkshake distributor said, “We were approached by a lecturer at the Hall Green campus who had seen our work on social media and was impressed with the results customers were getting. We set up a meeting, left samples and soon the relationship grew to supplying products and offering training to students. Being in a college strengthens our brand because the students are the future. With ongoing training from ourselves, the students will go from strength to strength with their passion and desire to succeed.”

Joanne Malin, a regular customer of Urban Elegance hair salon at Bournville College said, “I’ve been getting my hair done here every four weeks for quite a while now, so if it is good enough for TV, I’m sure I can recommend to everyone.

Another regular customer of the salons, Erica Taylor said “I’ve been coming here nearly two years now. Sometimes I have my hair done, sometimes I treat myself to a facial, massage or manicure. I think the salons here at the college are one of the area’s best kept secrets. I only found out about it by a friend and as they do such a good job and prices are reasonable, I can treat myself more often.”

Mike Hopkins, Principal of South & City College, which includes Bournville College, added “As a college we pride ourselves on the level of skill our students gain when they study with us. Having a state of the art facility like this, which provides genuine private sector work and experience is fantastic for us. The fact that we have very well-known people, including stars of television, who use the facility, not because we ask them to, but because they consider it to be the best, is testament to how good our facilities and students are.”
