17 year old Shamraiz Mohammed, from Bordesley Green has had a fascination with cars since he was a young boy and started watching Top Gear. So when he came to a South & City College open day, took a tour of the motor vehicle facilities and spoke to tutors, it was an easy decision for him to enrol on Motor Vehicle Level 1.

Motor vehicle maintenance is a stable industry, with a huge range of job roles in a wide variety of sectors and you can work anywhere in the world.

Shamraiz loves the practical side of the course, getting his hands dirty and the challenge of learning something new every day.

“I really enjoy learning at the college.” explained Shamraiz, “I need extra support because of severe hearing loss and the tutors are so helpful and encouraging. The facilities are great too, the common room has a pool table and Xbox and the canteen area even has its own Subway.”

His ambition is to become an MOT Tester and he has already mapped out his route. He has enrolled on Motor Vehicle Level 2 and will then progress to Level 3, where he’ll get his qualification to become an MOT Tester.

Shamraiz’s advice to fellow students is, “Follow your dream. Stay focussed and motivated to achieve your ambition.”
