21 year old Kiran Kaur Reel studied Level 3 Fashion and Clothing at South & City College, before graduating from Birmingham City University with a 2:1 in Fashion Business & Promotion. She now works as a Brand Manager at Selfridges.
“Attending the South & City College open day was the main reason I chose them.” Kiran recalled, “The tutors were so helpful. From explaining what buses I needed to catch, to describing how the days would work and which classes I would have.”
Kiran’s two years at college really gave her a head start when she went to university. “The way we worked at college was very similar to how we worked at university.” She said. “As well as this, we were taught various different software and skills that were really helpful at university.”
One of the things that stands out to Kiran about her time at college was being able to work on events, specifically the annual college Fashion Show. She enjoyed working the show so much, that she even continued her involvement for three years whilst studying for her degree.
Another element that Kiran fondly remembers the college for, is the self-confidence that was built by the staff and tutors. She added “This is what made me progress to where I am now.”
Fashion is an international industry and it is booming. It is worth around £12 billion to the UK economy, with around 340,000 people in fashion jobs in the UK.
