Over 130 students from subjects as diverse as Business, Hair & Beauty, Catering, IT, Robotics, eSports and Photography have recently spent a day at the NatWest Accelerator Hub in Birmingham, as part of their wider Entrepreneur Accelerator Programme.

During the day, students attended seminars on three areas:

  • Growth Mind-set
  • Business Model Canvassing &
  • How to Pitch Yourself or an Idea

Local entrepreneurs from each of the subject areas were also invited to address the students to give tips, advice and answer questions. It was also a great opportunity for our students to network.

Students have already networked to find mentors and have been back to the Hub to continue progressing their business ideas and plans with them.

Since 2016, NatWest’s programmes have supported nearly 12,000 entrepreneurs nationwide, leading to the creation of more than 1,000 jobs and helping businesses attract more than £224m in investment.

Now part of the programme is being delivered to university, college and school students.

Pam Sheemar, Entrepreneur Development Manager for NatWest said, “Our programme has been designed to develop our entrepreneurs as people as well as business leaders. When it comes to students, our shorter programme really brings to life the theory already learned at college. The Growth Mind-set seminar particularly assists students to take more personal responsibility, which helps them focus much more on studying and getting to where they want to be in the future.”

Kaussar Bashir, Deputy Faculty Head for Creative & Professional Studies added, “Our students have not just benefited from an incredible bespoke programme that Pam and her have team put together, but have also started a journey with passionate mentors.

“The students’ feedback unanimously celebrated the success of the day and built on the foundation of aspiration that our staff have already set; one of growth, ambition and inspiration. We are already working with Pam to develop our students to the next stage of entrepreneurship.

“Watch this space for the next entrepreneur of the decade!”
