New construction training programme announced

Construction Gateway HS2 BBV Pre employment training programme

South & City College Birmingham is working with HS2’s construction partner for West Midlands and Warwickshire, Balfour Beatty VINCI, to provide a pre-employment training programme focussed on construction and plant operation skills.

The course starts on 20 April and lasts for four weeks, with 30 spaces available. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge that will be vital in big construction projects like HS2.

The programme consists of three areas: Level 1 Award in Health & Safety for a Construction Environment, CPCS Accredited A73 Plant and Vehicle Traffic Marshaller, and Various Short Course Delivery.

Level 1 Award in Health & Safety for a Construction Environment

This course equips you with the correct and up to date knowledge about the health and safety guidelines within construction. Those who complete this course can progress onto CSCS Training, Testing and Card.

Duration: 4 weeks, with a 2-week guaranteed work trial at £10.88 per hour.

Various Short Course Delivery

There will be a range of short course delivery, including training that covers abrasive wheels, small tools, CAT and Genny, fire marshalling, and first aid.

CPCS Accredited A73 Plant and Vehicle Traffic Marshaller

This category of Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) training course is aimed at persons working as a Vehicle/Plant Marshaller in either a construction or warehouse environment.

The course aims to instruct delegates how to recognise the importance of accepting and dispersing vehicles in a safe and efficient manner, recognising significant risks and to be able to give clear and precise signals to vehicles.

Duration: 4 weeks, with a 2-week guaranteed work trial at £10.88 per hour.
