Our Bordesley Green campus was lucky to have two separate visits from police constables that shared their incredible journeys into the service. And what a surprise for our Public Services students! Both West Midlands Police Service constables were South & City College Birmingham alumni, from the same Public Services course!
This is an incredible opportunity for students, as giving a mirror of their own life and past helped them see their own future in these guest speakers too. Knowing the paths in will be a tremendous tool in their belt.
Thank you to officers Nagalyali Khan and Rayon Harvey!
Nangy powered through Level 2 and 3 with our college, before heading to university to become a police offer based at Bourneville Lane.
Having a goal and studying hard was what got him so far, and Officer Khan let the students know how important both parts are for life, no matter your background.
Officer Khan thanked the Public Services staff for their support and specialist knowledge over the 5 years he attended Bordesley Green. Both were invaluable for him to help him achieve his goal.
Rayon said the college was a massive factor in preparing him for employment. Particularly, the support from tutors in Public Services, Maths & English were integral in helping him develop his confidence.
Students were completely taken by Rayon’s honesty about his experiences, and inundated him with questions.
Ric Marconi, former Police Officer and current Lecturer for Public Services, said: “these were some of the best talks given by serving officers.”
