About the course

If you are interested in animal health and welfare and are keen to understand the theory behind it whilst developing your practical skills, then this is the course for you. During your studies, you will have access to a variery of animals, ranging from small mammals to reptiles and birds. The theory and practical lessons will support you to practice the correct animal care and husbandry of a large range of animals. You will also need to undertake 75 hours of placement in a real working environment.

If you are looking to start your journey into a career in Animal Care, this one year level 2 course will provide you with the foundation knowledge and skills to do so.

What are the entry requirements?

To study this qualification you will need to have achieved at least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 including English Language, Maths and Science.

Where can I progress next?

On successful completion of this course, you can progress onto a Level 3 course in Animal Management, providing you also meet the necessary English and Maths entry requirements.



Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA.
