About the course

Are you a recent school-leaver looking to kick-start a career in the sports and fitness industry? This one-year Level 2 qualification is a great choice whether you would like to progress into employment or further study. This course provides a great stepping stone to our Level 3 sports programmes. Previous students starting at Level 2 Sport have progressed through Level 3 and are succeeding at Level 5 on our Foundation Degree.

With a specific focus on health, fitness and exercise, this course aims to provide you with an introduction to a number of roles through an engagement with physical education and sport including, teaching, activity leadership and coaching for young people. You will be provided with guidance on further opportunities, including how to contribute to a variety of sports programmes as a sports leader and/or coach.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need to show that you have maths and English skills at Level 1 before starting a Level 2 course. This might be four GCSEs at Grade 3 (D) or above, a Level 1 BTEC in Sport or an equivalent Level 1 qualification.

Where can I progress next?

Upon successfully completing this course, you could go onto study the NCFE in Sport Level 3 qualification at the college or you could study more specialist qualifications in fitness or personal training to increase your career prospects. You could find an entry-level position in the sports and fitness industry.



Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA. Higher Education: If you are planning to undertake one of our Higher Education courses you can apply for a loan with Student Finance England, or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan with the college to support towards your course fees.
