My name is Fardus Abdullahi and I did Beauty Level 2 and 3 at South & City College Birmingham.
My interest in beauty started when I was young, I used to love anything about beauty and skincare! I used to do my own masks and nails and all of that. I always enjoyed doing those.
The name of my business is Heaven Skincare Salon. (@Heavenskincare_ on Instagram!)
I started from my house just in my living room when I finished Level 2. It was after the first lockdown, during the pandemic. It went well!
I used to work three days a week and the rest I’d come to the College to study at Level 3. So I was running my Heaven Skincare business while studying.
My days off I used to have a client at my house, and the other days I used to come here!
The first branch of Heaven Skincare was opened here in Birmingham, and I opened another branch in Somalia, my country.
Now, my sister is working there. She took some short courses and I gave her training with what I’d learned at the college. Then I opened the branch in January 2023 officially.
My time at the college helped me with everything, because I didn’t know anything! I didn’t know where to start.
I always wanted my business, a salon, skincare, anything like that. Then I was looking for courses and I came to SCCB just to see what they had and if they would accept me. I got my student card the very same day and I was so happy! I didn’t know what to expect but I was happy.
When I came here everything was fun. I enjoyed everything. It was a bit hard but I loved it and I learned a lot. I actually learned everything from here!”
