South & City College Birmingham, one of the UK’s largest providers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in the country has partnered with a leading education technology company, FlashAcademy.

FlashAcademy is the UK’s number one English as an additional language (EAL) provider in the UK, present in hundreds of primary and secondary schools across the country. Working with South & City College Birmingham, FlashAcademy’s ESOL app will be available to all students who want to learn English across all eight campuses. The platform is designed to develop English language skills, with content ranging from phonics, grammar and fluency to practical vocational vocabulary, such as health, finance, work-related and day-to-day life. Helping students to master English, whilst also teaching useful phrases that will help them to navigate everyday life. The company will also add a brand new digital ESOL assessment to the platform in the coming weeks, helping FE Colleges to save hundreds of hours of admin time.

After launching in 2016, FlashAcademy is now the UK’s most popular provider of EAL software for schools, in over 650 schools nationwide. Veejay Lingiah and Richard Allen launched the company after identifying the struggles that educators are currently facing to provide support to pupils who do not have English as a first language, as well as the challenges faced by the students themselves.

Veejay Lingiah, CEO and Co-Founder of FlashAcademy comments: “We’re excited to announce the launch of our brand-new ESOL app that is designed to help adults to learn English.

“At FlashAcademy, we have recognised the need for English language apps for adults as well as children and so are incredibly excited to launch our new app with South & City College, one of the biggest providers of ESOL in the country. We are now in discussions with other FE Colleges throughout the country, to see how the platform can assist them with their ESOL assessment and learning needs too.”

Ghulam Nabi, Project Manager at South & City College Birmingham adds: “As we begin to utilise cutting edge technologies to support student growth, pathways to a more demand-driven education system have become more realistic.

“Being one of the largest providers of ESOL in the country, we have now entered a new age of learning, with both students and employers demanding programmes that focus on skills ESOL learners will need in day-to-day life and for the workplace.

“Working with FlashAcademy on our new digital ESOL learning platform has allowed us to create a sophisticated and portable learning programme that has been designed to support students in acquiring the English language skills required to negotiate everyday life and support employer demands.”
