Advanced Apprenticeship in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools
This apprenticeship is all about providing additional support in the classroom for maths, English and ICT. You will earn as you learn, working alongside teachers, carrying out various duties, working with small groups of children or individuals allowing the teacher to concentrate on teaching the class. You may be able to specialise in areas like music or special needs.
The apprentice is based be in the workplace most of the time, earning a wage and gaining practical skills and experience. Attendance at college on a day release, improving theoretical knowledge and gaining additional skills. In addition, the apprentice will work towards achieving Functional Skills at level 2 in maths, English and ICT. The apprentice will work under the close supervision of a class teacher and will be supervising lessons and helping in the classroom. Depending on the teacher and the class subject, the apprentice may have the opportunity of supervising arts and crafts activities, helping with outings, or reading to the class. On the advanced apprenticeship, they will have some responsibility, will help plan, carry out and evaluate a wide range of learning activities, and will work alone with individuals and groups of students.
