Why South and City College Birmingham?

We run Theatrical Makeup, nail technician and theatrical media makeup courses from three of our campuses and at Bournville College, in real, purpose-built salons. You will learn from tutors who have years of experience working in the industry and they’ll bring their real-life experiences to the classroom. You will be hands-on in your course, getting stuck in from day one. The salons are equipped with the facilities and products found in high street salons.

New for September 2017, we will have a purpose built Specialist hair and theatrical make-up studio in Digbeth, where we will be offering our new Foundation Degree in Specialist Hair and Theatrical makeup.

Our courses will also give you hands-on experience of working on paying clients as our salons are open to the public. You will have the opportunity to have real hands-on experience working backstage on a filming set. You will learn about customer service, customer needs and uses your newly found skills on customers who are paying for their treatment.

Alongside this, you will be able to take part in an annual hair and beauty show held at the college, take part in competitions, do the make-up for the college’s fashion shows and we have even had students work on a film set.

Student Satisfaction Survey 2017/18

I really enjoy the course that I am on and the one that I did last year – which is why I stayed on for this year. The tutors are great and really helpful and very easy to talk too.
