Amanda Poole from Small Heath has recently finished the Level 4 Hair and Media Makeup and is looking forward to progressing to Level 5 in September.

Before coming to college, Amanda was a full-time mum to her three children and once they grew old enough, she came to a South & City College open day to see what options were available.

“I have always loved makeup and special effects.” Amanda explained, “I knew I wanted to do something I would enjoy. I was made to feel so welcome at the open day, everyone was nice and happy to answer my questions.”

Amanda’s memorable moment of the past year was when she took part in an additional training opportunity for using an airbrush to apply makeup. “It was so much fun.” She exclaimed. “I’d not used one before and I now want my own.”

The dream for Amanda, once she has finished her education, is to do the makeup special effects for sci-fi shows, such as Dr Who, the Walking Dead or Game of Thrones.

When asked what advice Amanda would give her younger self, knowing what she knows now, she said “Don’t let low self-esteem or confidence hold you back. Always remember you can do anything if you put your mind to it and never give up. Go for it!”
