About the course

This Level 2 course is suitable for both school leavers and adults alike who are looking to start a career in the beauty industry. The teaching will take place in a practical working environment within our commercial salons with the most up-to-date facilities. You will get to work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. There are also opportunities to attend external events which in the past have included MAC head office, Covent Gardens, WorldSkills Live, Salon International, Blackpool Winter Gardens and The Beauty Show at the NEC.

This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the beauty industry at a junior level. You'll cover topics such as client care and communication, facial skin care, waxing, manicures, pedicures, applying makeup and lash and brow treatments.

What are the entry requirements?

You may have current and continued work experience in a beauty/nail salon, by which you can enrol onto the course upon a successful interview. Due to the externally set and externally marked exam, you will need to complete an initial assessment for Level 1 English, GCSE grade 3 or above in English language or Entry Level 3 or above in Functional Skills.

Where can I progress next?

On successful completion you can progress onto the Level 3 Qualification in General Beauty Therapy or the Level 2 Certificate in Makeup Artistry.



Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA.
